Wiring Fire Alarm Zones
Have you ever wondered how a fire system works? Let’s take a second and go over it.
Conventional fire systems monitor multiple devices like smoke alarms, pull stations, and heat detectors. These devices are typically wired to zones that can help indicate the location of the activated devices.
Typically, these devices are wired in series, one after another. The wiring runs in and out of each device. The last device in the loop has the resistor installed on the device terminals. Each device is wired “Normally Open.”
When any smoke alarm, pull station, or other device is activated, the loop is shorted by the activated device. The alarm panel calls for help.
