Here is that process in person.

The Negative wire is connected directly to power.

The Positive power flows through the meter to give you the measurement in milli-amps. This electric strike is drawing a little less current than the manufacturers spec. No Problem. If the current draw was very high or even a short, the lock should be replaced.
